Books & Resources

A Thoughtful, Evidence-Informed Foundation

The resources and tools we share through Shift Happens are informed by a blend of:

  • Positive psychology
  • Person-centred approaches
  • Nervous system regulation and trauma-aware practice

All content is designed to be practical, accessible, and compassionate, not overwhelming or prescriptive.

Positive Psychology

We draw on positive psychology to help people understand what supports wellbeing, resilience, and meaning, without toxic positivity.

This includes:

  • Strength-based reflection
  • Building self-trust and self-efficacy
  • Understanding motivation, values, and purpose
  • Reframing challenges as information, not failure

The focus is not on “staying positive,” but on developing realistic hope and inner resources.

Person-Centred Approach

At the heart of our work is a person-centred philosophy.

That means:

  • You are the expert in your own experience
  • Change happens best when you feel heard and respected
  • There is no “one-size-fits-all” solution

Our books and resources are designed to support autonomy, self-awareness, and self-compassion, not to tell you who you should be.

Nervous System Regulation

Many struggles with motivation, confidence, boundaries, or overwhelm aren’t a mindset problem, they’re a nervous system one.

We integrate nervous system-aware practices to help you:

  • Understand stress responses without pathologising them
  • Recognise when your system is overwhelmed, shut down, or on high alert
  • Learn gentle grounding and regulation tools
  • Build capacity instead of forcing productivity

This approach supports sustainable change by working with your biology, not against it.

How These Resources Are Meant to Be Used

Our books and resources are not meant to be rushed or “completed.”

They are designed to be:

  • Dipped into during busy or difficult seasons
  • Used alongside coaching, therapy, or self-reflection
  • Adapted to your energy levels and needs
  • Returned to as your life and identity shift

Progress is not linear – and neither is growth.
